Your 2-year-old now

What can a 2-year-old remember? More and more every day! He's developing a way of thinking called spatial representation or symbolic thinking. Basically it means he can see things in his mind's eye. As experience and habit create new connections in his brain, he becomes better able to call up these captured images: what a lost teddy looks like, the way to Grandma's house, the ice cream and cake served at the party yesterday. (Kaylyn can remember the day's events & relate/report to me whatever she's been doing. It helps especially when I'm not with her 24/7.) Help your preschooler lay down these memory tracks in the brain by asking questions about things he knows: "Hmmm, what will the bunny say goodnight to next?" Ask him to recall details: "Did you have vanilla ice cream or chocolate?" At night, review your day together: "And then what did we do?"

Your little one's a budding conversationalist, even if you're the one doing most of the talking. He's beginning to ask lots of questions, a development that fills two needs for him: It's a way of finding out about things, and it's also a way of keeping the interchange with you going. That lets him engage with you longer and pick up even more words.Early favorite questions include "Why?" (YEAH! That's Kaylyn's fav word right now.) and "What's that?" (That too!) (Or simply, "Dat? Dat?") As his language skills grow more sophisticated, so will his questions: "What's making that sound?" "What if the car went off the road?" "Why don't the birds fall down?"Try to answer his questions as quickly as you can, in simple, full sentences. "Birds have wings that keep them up in the air." Being responsive encourages future questions, and your answers help him learn from your example how to put sentences together. Don't be afraid to say "I don't know." Find a book on the subject to share.Your preschooler loves to answer questions as much as ask them. When you're reading books, ask about the pictures or the story: "Where is the brown doggie?" "What do you think he likes to eat?" "What will happen next?"

My Extended Vocabulary

Daddy was on leave today so mummy didn't bring me over to ah mah's hse before she heads off to work. However, mummy wanted to tease me & asked me if I wanna go to ah mah's hse & play with Aisaac kor-kor & Ashley jie-jie.

I surprised mummy when I told her " No go ah mah's hse lah...enough already...no play with kor-kor & jie-jie. Kaylyn wanna go playground & eat lunch. Mummy go eat mum-mum together? Mummy go eat lunch then go working?" Mummy was so surprised by my extended vocabulary & quickly told daddy. Daddy proudly says that's because I have his 'clever' genes. Mummy then protested & said that's because mummy taught me well.

Disney @ Changi

Mummy was sick today, having sore throat, headache & bodyaches all over since last night. I guess she must have caught it when she was walking in the rain the previous day.

However, daddy still insisted on going to JB for golf & left the hse at 530am, leaving mummy all alone to care for Kaylyn. Daddy's excuses was because he had already promised his colleagues to drive them to JB so he can't cancel the game. Even though it's very obvious mummy is not feeling well & didn't catch a wink the whole of Fri night.

Poor mummy managed to doze off finally at 7am until I woke her up at 9am for milk. Thereafter she had to prepare my b'fast, cooked my lunch, played with me, showered me & make me nap before laying down to rest her aching body.

Auntie OC had told mummy there's a Disney themed Meet & Greet session at Terminal 3 today, so Mummy reckoned since she'll be alone with me for the whole day today, so she might as well make full use of it & brought me to Changi airport in the afternoon.

We reached there at around 5pm but Auntie OC smsed Mummy and said she'll be late. So mummy brought me to walk around the Departure Hall & we saw some Disney characters lanterns. I was so in a hurry to take pictures with Mickey & Minnie mouse that I quickly rushed up to the platform & pose for a picture despite blocking other people's picture-taking opportunites. Mummy dunno to laugh or be mad at me.

Thereafter, we proceeded to B2 where the Meet & Greet sessions are held. Unfortunately, there were already a long queue snaking from the stage where Mickey & Minnie mouse will pose for pictures. Free tickets for the photo taking session has been ALL given out, so we have no choice but to stand further away from the stage to catch a glimps of Mickey & Minnie mouse. I couldn't contain my eagerness & kept asking Mummy where's Mickey & Minnie. I stared intently at the stage & shouted "Mickey, where are you? I'm here leh!" I wondered why the people around me kept giving me amused smiles.

Finally at 530pm, Mickey & Minnie mouse appeared on stage to begin the photo taking session. I was so excited that I kept shouting to Mickey & Minnie, hoping to catch their attention. Mummy find it very boring to just look at Mickey & Minnie posing with other people for photo-takings, so she dragged me to the mini-playground by the water fountain. I was happily playing until Auntie OC & gillian reached.

We later procceded to have our dinner at the foodcourt. Being mischevious, I kept running out of my chair & Auntie OC had to run after me while Mummy was busy buying drinks. So sorry to Auntie OC for losing your Kopitiam card while you're preoccupied with me.

After dinner, we shopped around & Mummy bought a straw hat for me.

Xmas Celebration at Auntie Ep's hse

Mummy brought me to Auntie Ep's hse for a Xmas celebration cum b'day party for Auntie Dsii. She has very kindly volunteered her place & prepared many dishes for us. While the adults were busy chatting over delicious food, we kids were busy running around, playing toys & making a mess of the place.

Mummy's B'day Celebration

Mummy's b'day is due in 2 weeks so daddy specially made arrangements to give mummy a surprised b'day celebration cum mahjong session at Auntie Liling's hse.

Although it was supposed to be mummy's b'day celebration, but end up daddy is busy playing mahjong while we kids are busy running around & playing. Mummy was so bored that she decided to go to a convenience store nearby to get some magazines to pass time.

Then after cutting the b'day cake, everyone left. Daddy couldn't have dinner with us (AGAIN!) as he had to entertain a customer's family who came to town for a tour. Luckily, mummy managed to have a nice japanese dinner with Auntie Justine & family and Uncle Koh. Uncle Koh is so nice to drive us home too! Thx uncle Koh!

Daddy's Leicester Uni Class Gathering

Daddy brought us to Auntie Kirsten hse for his Uni class gathering this evening. It was raining very heavily but luckily it stopped in time for us to start our BBQ session.

While all the uncles were busy helping out with the cooking, mummy was busy chatting away while I'm busy running around & playing with Elijah kor-kor.

I enjoyed feeding the fishes & turtles, seeing them fighting to snatch away the bread. But I guess the koi fishes don't really fancy the wholemeal bread as they swollow & puke it out again.

Mummy also brought me to the playground to play. I love the slides, rides, swings, see-saw & merry-go-round. The condo even have slides in the children's pool! But mummy didn't bring along my swimming costumes plus it was raining beforehand so the water is freezing cold, so I didn't have a chance to swim.

Disney Princess

Daddy & mummy brought me to watch Disney Princess show at the indoor stadium today. It was an 11am show so before the show starts , Daddy brought us to have a quick bfast at the nearby MacDonalds.

By the time we are seated, the show had already started. I was so fanscinated with the stories that my eyes were glued to the stage for the entire show. The show tells the story of the 3 Disney princesses (Snow White, Cinderalle & Beauty & Beast). Although I'm not familiar with all the stories, but I still pay attention to the show. I must say the entire production is great & the stage sets are fantastic. I like how the magical lights lit-up when the fairy godmother appears.

During break-time, I saw lotsa jie-jies wearing pretty princess gowns, eating popcorns with princess packaging. I kept nagging at mummy that I want to 'eat princess', but daddy says it's too ex & there's no need to spend that kinda money. I'm so disappointed...:(

The show last about an hour and half, and we quickly left the indoor stadium to head out for lunch as our stomachs are all growling with hunger.

Visit Great Grandma

Great grandma just recovered from an injury and she can finally sit up & walk. It's been a long time since we visited her anyway, so daddy decided to drove us into M'sia to visit her over the weekends.

We left the house after lunch at reached there at around 430pm. I was really tired and slept through the entire car ride. We had dinner at Auntie Mei's house and I enjoyed myself so much playing with Jie Jie and running around. So much so that I'm reluctunt to go to bed at night.

The next morning, uncle drove us to have some tim sum and we parted ways to drive to Ayer Hitam. I was really sad parting with Jie Jie and kept screaming for her in the car. Mummy had to keep comforting me and I 'bluff' myself that Jie Jie is in the car infront of us.

We rested abit in Great grandma's house then we had lunch and bidded everyone farewell. As usual, I fell asleep as soon as we're on the highway but daddy drove really fast and we reached JB in just 45mins. We then decided to do some groceries shopping at Jusco, JB. It was really crowded and the parking queue stretched all the way to the main road. Luckily we managed to find a parking lot very quickly. We spent about an hour in Jusco before we head back to Singapore.

By the time we passed customs, we're all very hungry. So daddy drove us to Thomson rd for Niang Tofu. It was really nice that I took my own sweet time eating while everyone has to wait for me.

July Mummies/Babies Gathering

Another round of July babies gathering again!

This time, Auntie Eeyore rented the function room at her condo to hold the gathering. I'm so happy to be able to see my friends again. So while mummy & aunties were busy munching on food & chatting away, I was busy running around with my friends, catching & throwing balloons.

MacDonald's Magic Show

There's an opening party at the Hougang Festival Market MacDonald's today so mummy brought me to Hougang Point for breakfast with Uncle RB, auntie Lizhen & mei mei En Qi. We had toasted bread & pratas at Ah Mei Cafe then we shopped around the shopping complex & bought some groceries at NTUC.

Soon it's time for the magic show to start, so we quickly proceeded to the tentage outside the building. Luckily it's break time, so we managed to find good seats in the middle. The magic show was performed by Ronald MacDonald & it's very interesting, although mummy & auntie looks really bored.

When the show ends, I'm hungry again so we went to have lunch at MacDonald's. Mummy then drove Uncle & family home. However, I refused to leave their house when I saw the toys so we stayed for awhile longer & finally leave when the it's threatening to rain.

Lantern Festival Celebration

It's my 2nd year celebrating Lantern Festival & this year, we had another around of gathering with all my baby friends.

Auntie Amanda & Uncle Liverpool were very kind to open up their condo's function room for our gathering. Some of my friends came earlier to swim but I had to go to daddy's friend's daughter's full month celebratio prior to the the gathering. So by the time I woke up from my nap & reached Auntie Amanda's house, it was already 630pm.

It was a potluck session so mummy bought lotsa jellies along. There were fried rice, fried noodles, nuggets, fishballs, otahs, pizzas, mooncakes & curry chicken. All contributed by the other mummies.

We kids had fun taking turns to ride tricycles around the function room while the adults mingled around to catch up & enjoy the good food. Soon, it was time for lantern parade. Everyone carried their lanterns & walked a big round around the swimming pool. It was really nice to see brightly lit lanterns around the darken pool. It seems like twinkle twinkle little stars shining brightly in the moonlit night. We stopped by the children's playgroup & started playing with the slides in the dark. Haha, it was SO MUCH FUN! It's the only time of the year where we're allowed to play with candles & fire, not to mention playing in the dark playground.

After the lantern parade, it's BUBBLES TIME! All the kids were fanscinated by the bubbles & we kept runnning around, chasing & trying to catch them. Our hair are all wet by the time we finished. Mummy couldn't tell if it was due to the soap or perspiration.

My First Bintan Trip

Mummy's friend managed to bid for a villa at Bintan Lagoon Resort http://web.bintanlagoon.com/accommodation-villas.shtml from her company at a discounted rate, but as she was unable to go at the last minute, she had kindly offer mummy the opportunity to enjoy the facilities there & mummy had in turn, asked auntie ylc & her family along.

So on a Wednesday afternoon, we took a cab to Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal to catch the 2pm ferry. Auntie ylc & her family were already there having their lunch so we quickly proceeded to check in. I was originally sleeping while on the way there, but quickly woke up as soon as we reached the terminal. I was so excited roaming & running around with my friend, Caitlin that we missed our boarding time until a ferry staff had to call us in.

The ferry was already docked at the jetty & everyone was busy boarding. I didn't feel any motion sickness because mummy had bought the motion sickness band for all of us. It acts by pressing on the acupuncture point on my wrist to prevent motion sickness.

After about 50mins ferry ride, we finally reached Bintan. Next, we transferred to a shuttle bus which took us to Bintan Lagoon Resort 30mins away. After we've checked in at the reception, we had to take another mini bus to arrive at our villa.

It was BEAUTIFUL! It's a 2-storey bungalow with attached private swimming pool. It also comes with a personal buggy. I was very excited & wanted to jump into the pool immediately, but then it started to drizzle & soon rained quite heavily. Mummy on the DVDs for us to watch while auntie ylc cooked macaroni cheese for us.

After some time, the rain still didn't stop. We reckoned since the pool water is warm enough & we're going to get ourselves wet anyway, so we don't mind going swimming despite the slight drizzle. All of us had fun soaking & swimming in the pool. We only got out when the rain became heavier again. We then spent the rest of the evening watching DVDs while the adults cooked dinner. I was so tired after swimming that I fell asleep at 630pm until the next morning.

The sun was shinning brightly the next day & we quickly took the opportunity to go to the beach after a nice breakfast of chicken pie & swissrolls. We took the buggy out & drove straight to the beach. Mummy & auntie ylc even tried driving the buggy. Haha. Caitlin & I had lotsa fun playing with the sand, building sand castles & blowing bubbles. Daddy was busy sun tanning himself while mummy laze around under the shade. We sweat so much that we immediately jumped into the private pool when we reached our villa. So shiok! Daddy, mummy, auntie ylc & uncle had a game of water polo while Caitlin & I were busy cheering away. It was so much fun. We were so disappointed when the sky suddenly darkened & rained.

After shower, I immediately dozed off. Mummy & daddy happily took the opportunity to have a quiet lunch while auntie ylc & family went to tabao some food from the resort restaurant. After a 2hr nap, it's another round of swimming & then we prepared to go out for a nice dinner.

We drove our buggy to the hotel lobby & requested for a taxi to take us to Pasar Ole Ole. The cab driver recommended a seafood restaurant which he claimed provide nice & clean seafood. It was dark by the time we reached there & the whole place is rather quiet. Save for a few tourists having their dinner. We headed straight to the recommended restaurant & ordered a set meal for 4 plus 2 crabs. The dinner was really nice & the price was reasonable. Definitely cheaper than the resort food. We also enjoyed the live band which performed songs to our requests. After dinner, we slowly strolled around the nearby shops & bought some tibits & ice-creams back to our villa. Again, I fell asleep immediately until the next morn when we took the morning ferry back to Singapore.

This is my 1st visit to Bintan & my first ride on the ferry. Overall, the trip is an enjoyable one for me. I enjoyed swimming, playing with sand & watching the big ships sail pass the ferry although daddy felt abit bored because there wasn't much to do at the villa except swimming, going to the beach & lazing around.

Here's some pictures to share...
